In addition to being the city carillonist of Antwerp (Hemony, 1655), Lier (Julien, 1704/19) and Herentals (Fritsen, 1961), I also have the pleasure to play a carillon of Andreas Jozef Vanden Gheyn (1775) as city carillonist of Turnhout. Furthermore, I have been the city carillonist of Leuven for 20 years, the same position that Matthias Vanden Gheyn held for 40 years (on another carillon).
This gave me the inspiration for this recording project with carillons of the Vanden Gheyn family and with music of Matthias, as a contribution to the celebration of 300 years of Matthias Vanden Gheyn (1721/2021).
Thanks to Campanae Lovanienses for their support in promoting this project. Thanks to Luc Rombouts for his arrangements of the music (section 2). Thanks to Richard de Waardt for bringing the bells of Schiedam back to live. Thanks to all my colleagues from the involved carillons.
I hope you will enjoy this music. Koen
